-day workshop is designed for new and experienced supervisors who want to
increase their management skills fast — and get on the fast track to achieving leadership success.
Foundational leadership training will cover the proven management techniques and powerful strategies
you need to become a stronger, more confident and respected leader.

Highlights of the workshop include:

  • Recognizing the difference between managing and leading and identifying when each is essential
  • Describing the behaviors of effective leaders
  • Learning how to develop leadership behaviors
  • Identifying management and leadership strengths and development needs
  • Drafting a self-development plan


AGENDA

Module I: Managing and Leading

The difference between managing and leading is established and the need for both is examined.  
Participants explore why managers cannot drop management practices to become leaders. They
discover that it takes a manager with leadership capabilities to achieve superior performance.

Module 2: Management and Leadership Behaviors

Through a self-leadership discovery exercise, participants determine their management and leadership
behaviors critical to success within their organization.  A Management/Leadership Comparative Model is
examined and participants identify how they are currently focusing their efforts in relation to both
managing and leading through an individual exercise.


Module 3: Successful Leadership Practices

A five-part model (Kouzes and Posner) for successful leadership is presented. The model includes:
  • "Inspiring a Shared Vision"
  • " Enabling Others to Act"
  • "Modeling the Way"
  • "Challenging the Process"
  • "Encouraging the Heart"

Each of these leadership behaviors is addressed through a conceptual segment and experiential
exercise.  Participants will discover the power of leading through these five behaviors to lead more
effectively.


Module 4: Leadership Development Planning

Each participant considers management and Leadership behaviors individually as they complete a brief
self-assessment. Participants rate each behavior for importance to their job and then determine
whether each behavior is a strength or a development opportunity.  Each participant translates self-
assessment results into a draft Leadership Development Plan.  This plan outlines leadership goals and
helps participants identify actions they need to take to further develop their  leadership style and
behaviors.
